EMDR Therapy: Work with an Experienced EMDR Therapist in California
Healing with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
EMDR is an alternative to traditional talk therapy that has been scientifically proven to help individuals process and heal from painful memories, reduce anxiety, and regain a sense of emotional balance.
Whether you are stuck past, have experienced a recent traumatic event or crisis or have a desire to overcome deep self-limiting negative beliefs at Cove Counseling Group we have highly trained EMDR therapists in California ready to help you with your healing.
How does EMDR therapy work?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) helps to reprocess and clear distressing memories by stimulating both sides of the brain including rapid eye movement. This bilateral stimulation reduces the emotional charge of these memories, allowing for healthier emotional responses and beliefs.
EMDR therapy helps you to process and heal from past experiences in a way that doesn’t require reliving them in detail.
Many clients find EMDR to be transformative, helping them overcome long-standing issues and move forward with greater peace and resilience.
Key benefits: short-term treatment, non-invasive, research backed approach
What to expect in an EMDR therapy session
EMDR follows an eight-phase protocol.
The first three phases involves your therapist getting to know you and gathering relevant history, identifying goals and developing an individualized treatment plan and preparing you for desensitization and reprocessing.
In phases 4-8 you will participate in the desensitization and reprocessing of the target memories you identified in the earlier phases through bilateral stimulation.
Different methods of bilateral stimulation include eye movements, tactile stimulation and auditory stimulation.
-
Using your eyes to track your therapist’s fingers or light bar
-
experiencing alternating physical sensations on opposite sides of the body through tapping or a vibrating device
-
listening to alternating tones in each ear through headphones
Who can benefit from EMDR?
While EMDR was originally developed to help those who have experienced trauma or a diagnosis of PTSD , it can also benefit others.
EMDR can help individuals struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, and challenges in their relationships.
EMDR can also support overachievers, people pleasers and survivors of narcissistic abuse and emotionally abusive relationships.
